Meet The Blogger: Laura From Roachie’s Reviews

Happy Thursday everyone, today I have one of my favourite blogs to share with you as part of my Meet The Blogger Series! Being a self confessed bibliophile I do enjoy reading dedicated book blogs and Laura’s site Roachie’s Reviews is one I visit regularly.  If you are looking for some book inspiration then this is the place to go. I hope you enjoy finding out more about Laura and her wonderful site.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog

My name is Laura and I run a book blog called Roachie’s Reviews. I review books but I also write blog posts about bookshops and other bookish places and items.

How long have you been blogging?

Around seven months, so still fairly new to the scene.

What or who inspired you to create your blog?

I really wanted something to focus on outside of work and it seemed to make sense to make the most of something I’m already passionate about: reading. Oddly, I really hated blogging before I started running my book blog!

What’s your favourite thing about running your blog?

I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t the book post. I get so excited when I get home to parcels of books, sometimes there’s a stack. But I also love it when someone says they enjoyed reading my post – it makes me happy to know I’ve written something worth reading.

How do you stay motivated?

I try not to pressure myself too much. I don’t have goals for my blog and take a relaxed approach. That way there’s nothing to demotivate me.

What’s been the most challenging part of your blogging journey to date?

Probably dealing with tricky subjects. When you put something in the public domain there’s always the risk that maybe you haven’t used the correct term to describe something or maybe have written something that sounds fine in your head but doesn’t translate well in a blog. In those cases, I sometimes ask my partner or a trusted blogger friend just to cast an eye over it and give me an honest opinion before it goes live.

Tell us about your favourite blog post

Ooh that’s a tough one! I’d have to say it’s one of my early posts, a review of Catherine Fisher’s A Clockwork Crow. This represents my proudest blogging moment as the publishers put a quote from my post on the back of the final version of the book. It still gives me a warm glow when I see it on the shelves in bookshops. Check out the post here!

Describe your blog in four words

Hopeful, sincere, relaxed, bookish.

What are your future hopes and dreams for your blog?

I’m working on that at the moment. I want to find my focus and also where I stand morally on a few matters, like using affiliate links for big corporations. It’s something that’s going to take some time and there’s no rush, but watch this space!

QUICKFIRE GET TO KNOW YOU QUESTIONS:

Early Bird or Night Owl?

Early bird. I love being up before anyone else.

Night in or night out?

What is this ‘night out’ of which you speak?

Ketchup or mayo?

Ketchup. Easy. Next!

Summer or Winter?

Summer. Long days, heat, reading in the sun.

Tea or coffee?

Don’t make me choose! Ugh, fine. Tea.

Bath or shower?

Bath. You can’t read in the shower.

Pizza or Chinese?

Pizza.

Dog or cat?

Cat. They may be a bit evil but I still love them.

Movie or box set?

Neither. I don’t really watch that much TV because I have a very short attention span. It’s wasted on me!

Sweet or savoury?

Sweet. I could live on cake.
