10 Simple Ways To Enjoy Autumn

The seasons have definitely changed with a distinct chill in the air and all the Autumn feels. Despite Winter being my favourite season Autumn comes a very close second, with so much to do and enjoy as we wave goodbye to the warmer weather and pack those t-shirts and shorts away until next year. In celebration of Autumn I’ve decided to compile a list of 10 ways I like to embrace and enjoy this time of year to offer a little inspiration for you and your family.

Go For A Walk

It may be a little chilly out, but grab your warm coat, hats and scarfs and get outside! This time of year is so pretty with lots to look and discover as you enjoy the wonderfully crisp fresh air. We love nothing more than donning our wellies and indulging in some leaf jumping and crunching during our Autumn walks, there really is nothing more satisfying than the crunch of fallen leaves!

Autumnal Drinks

Goodbye ice filled drinks, hello Winter warmers! Once you’ve enjoyed your time outside why not treat yourself to something yummy to warm you through? Whatever your preference there are plenty of options of autumnal drinks, be it a pumpkin spiced latte or hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows it’ll be sure to warm the cockles and thaw those frozen finger tips.

Collect Conkers

Conkers are such a nostalgic thing for me with many happy memories of foraging for them in the local woods before rushing home for my Mum to attach them to a string to play against my friends. There are hundreds of conkers out there waiting to be discovered at this time of year and the kids love having a competition to see who can find the biggest, shiniest one. Conker hunting is a great way to get the whole family out of the house, away from screens and enjoying the outdoors.

Carve A Pumpkin

It wouldn’t be Autumn without pumpkins and it’s ALWAYS fun to spend an afternoon being creative and carving one in the run up to Halloween. It’s not just for kids though it’s something the whole family can get involved in. It’s messy, fun and creative whats not to love!

Go Trick Or Treating

Talking of Halloween trick or treating is an absolute must! The kids (and adults) love getting dressed up in their spooky attire and heading out to visit our neighbours to give them a fright before heading home and giving out treats to those who call at our door. The whole atmosphere of fun and excitement of Halloween evening is infectious and the kids certainly fall into bed with a smile on their face once the sugar rush wears off!

Decorate The House

Why not get into the Autumn mood and accessorise the house with seasonal items? These could be simple Autumn leaves and candles* to a full blown spooky Halloween theme. However you do it have fun and be creative!

Cook Seasonal

It’s getting chilly outside and you want something more than a salad for tea, so now is the time to dig out the casserole dishes and cook up some seasonal warmers! Our seasonal favourites are chilli, stew and any kind of casserole, but as long as it’s filling and hearty it’s perfect for the Autumn months.

Go Shopping

Not that we need an excuse but as the weather turns it’s the perfect opportunity to update your wardrobe with some of the new seasonal pieces. I personally much prefer snugly knitwear to the skimpy Summer clothing and love to indulge in a few new purchases for the whole family. This season I’m really loving dark greens as well as the mustard trend which seems to still be going strong.

Read A Spooky Story

Of course my ways to enjoy Autumn wouldn’t be complete without the inclusion of books and I love nothing more than grabbing a blanket and a cuppa to settle down and enjoy a spooky read. I also really enjoy sharing some spooky tales* with the kids, there are so many wonderful titles available at this time of year and it’s the perfect excuse to treat them to new book or two! Also be sure to check out your local library as they often have dedicated Halloween recommendation stands where you can discover books that you may not have considered.

Get Crafty

There are so many ways to get crafty using seasonal materials and me and the kids love getting messy making Halloween decorations. It’s a great way to keep them busy, especially during the half term! Why not kill two birds with one stone and get them out for a walk to collect natural materials to use in their craft and hopefully the fresh air will wear them out! The shops are filled with crafty kits and ideas* at this time of year if you are looking for inspiration for your seasonal craft.
