Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog
Hello, I’m Jess – a mum of two. Sofia who is five and has just started Year 1, and Arlo who is two.
I work part time at a design agency, am addicted to crisps, partial to a prosecco and a gin and there’s nothing more I love than a lie in. Though they are literally as rare as Unicorn shit.
I’m the chief writer of parenting and lifestyle blog Prosecco Mum, where I blog about honest motherhood, our days out, school life and travel…and everything in between!
How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging around seven years ago, secretly at first on an anonymous WordPress site, then I came out all guns blazing with Prosecco Mum around five years ago.
What or who inspired you to create your blog?
I wasn’t really inspired by anyone as such, I wrote a Facebook status about ‘my first year as a mum’ and lots of people said I should start a blog. So I did. I find writing cathartic and I enjoy documenting our life and the milestones within it.
What’s your favourite thing about running your blog?
Having something to look back on. A forever online piece of the craziest part of my life – becoming a mum!
How do you stay motivated?
Truthfully? I don’t. It comes in waves. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I just can’t be arsed with it!
What’s been the most challenging part of your blogging journey to date?
A while ago I was obsessed with trying to get to work with brands, increasing my DA, upping my SEO rankings, researching how I could get more followers on my social platform etc.
But actually, that’s not what it’s all about – and when you strip it back it’s so much nicer to just do things because you want to and watch things organically grow. This is a hobby to me not a job.
Tell us about your favourite blog post
I have a few different style blogs that I love:
- Things I’ve learnt in my first year as a school mum
- Letter to my first born baby, Sofia
- 1st baby vs 2nd baby
What are your future hopes and dreams for your blog?
Honest. Unorganised. Braindump. Sweary.
