How long have you been blogging?

2 years and 75,000 friends and family later, Stylebymalvika is where it is today!

What or who inspired you to create your blog?

The seeds of Stylebymalvika were sown in my college dorm room, and I owe it to one of my best friends for encouraging me to start. At the time, she had her own poetry blog, and she would see me always chatting on about these cool fashion blogs that I’d follow. Seeing my passion and love for fashion, she encouraged me to start my own platform, and if it wasn’t for her, as well as several other amazing fashion bloggers that paved the way–Aimee Song, Danielle Bernstein, Chiara Ferragni, and the list goes on–I don’t think I’d be where I am today!

What’s your favourite thing about running your blog?

Having a space to authentically express myself creatively is the most satisfying feeling in the world. Having always been a creative soul–learning piano, Indian Classical Dance, and dabbling in several other creative fields–I’ve always had a yearning to express myself. When all my hobbies from high school ceased to exist as I entered college, having a blog was my saving grace because it gave me what is perhaps the best outlet I’ve ever had.

How do you stay motivated?

I like to keep a list of my goals handy as much of the time as possible. If it’s not written on the notes in my phone, it’s plastered on my work desk either at home or in the office. If I ever find that there is a moment where I’m feeling down, defeated, or just plain tired, I let myself feel it for a moment, and then look at that list to reignite my fire.

What’s been the most challenging part of your blogging journey to date?

My biggest challenge, which acted as a huge halting point for me and my career, has been getting hacked on Instagram. Given the nature of what I do, a great deal of my business relies heavily on my Instagram, and the day it was hacked, I remember initially, being in total shock and disbelief, and later, feeling like two years of my life–building up a body of quality content and a decently sized audience–had been wasted.

Overcoming this took a lot of resiliency. The next morning, I created a new Instagram account, put up a video explaining what had happened, and prepared myself to start back up from scratch. Meanwhile, I was doing my best to reach out to individuals at Instagram to see if they could help, and after reaching out to about 20 people, one person had a lead that was able to help. I thank my stars for this every day, but what I have learned, is that persevering and believing in righteousness will always save the day.

Tell us about your favourite blog post

I don’t think I can even find the words to express why this blog postis my favourite. All I know is that every time I sit back and go through this, I get chills. I’ve never written a blog post this personal, raw, unfiltered, and unedited, but I can hear my voice speaking it every time I read it.

Describe your blog in four words

Colourful, Creative, Luxurious, and Raw.

What are your future hopes and dreams for your blog?

Instead of stating the professional goals I have in terms of collaborations, partnerships, and more, I want to say that the larger dream I have for my platform is for it to become a place where those who are ever running low on motivation, can come to feeling inspired to take charge of their own lives, make tomorrow a better day, and surprise themselves with how amazing they can dress themselves up to feel their very best. I am a firm believer that fashion is the primary way in which we communicate with the universe (and ourselves) before we even speak, and we owe it to communicate to ourselves or own value–by dressing in such a way that makes us feel empowered.
