Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog

My name’s Grace, I’m an 18 year old blogger from England advocating positivity and healthy escapsism – hence the name “ctrl alt esc“. I passionately write about fashion, music and beauty as well as more important issues such as mental health, equality and social controversies!

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging since I was very young, around 12 years old, however those old (and embarrassing) websites have now been deleted!
I properly began writing my current blog, ctrl alt esc, just last month and am loving the journey so far.

What or who inspired you to create your blog?

Writing has been my passion for as long as I can remember but the main inspiration for starting my blog was reading articles from professionals and those who had managed to grow a large audience from nothing. Due to my dream of becoming a fashion journalist and my adoration for writing, teachers and friends recommended I started a blog, so, without hesitation, I began planning and posting!

What’s your favourite thing about running your blog?

My favourite element of blogging is certainly the satisfaction achieved after posting an article that I’m proud of. I went through a stage in my life during which I lacked confidence and often felt useless, however, since starting my blog, I have goals to strive towards and an audience to write for. It’s so rewarding.

How do you stay motivated?

Two key sources of motivation for me are:
  •  looking up to professionals, inspiring me to continue working hard in order to make a living from my passion.
  • reading positive comments and feedback that encourage me to continue writing

What’s been the most challenging part of your blogging journey to date?

As a new blogger, the most challenging thing I’ve dealt with is probably maintaining regularity and consistency on my blog despite not reaching a large audience. Spending hours on a post that hardly gets any attention can be tough but I understand that this is inevitable as I’m very new to the community!

Tell us about your favourite blog post

My favourite blog post on my site is entitled ‘Music Inspired Fashion’ and is about how songs depict different creative visions and therefore can inspire clothing choices. It’s often difficult to compliment yourself but I’m actually really proud of this post as I think it was a unique way of combining two of my passions in a style that I’ve never seen done before.

Describe your blog in four words

Positivity, Escapism, Journeys, Enthusiasm

What are your future hopes and dreams for your blog?

I would absolutely love to build up a large audience to provide an outlet of healthy escapism for. I hope to encourage young people like me (as well as people of all ages) to work on themselves and their passions. It would be a dream come true to continue working on my blog and growing as a writer I can eventually reach the level where I am capable of becoming a journalist.
