Book Review: Magic Pie By Robyn Embrey

Children’s imaginations are limitless! Everything in they encounter in their everyday life can be immediately created into something new! It’s this imagination and fun that inspired Mum of two and author Robyn Embrey to begin documenting some of her own children’s adventures. Her recently released children’s book Magic Pie takes is inspired by her own children, but I’m sure will be completely relateable to parents everywhere!

About The Book

Olly just wants to make magic pie,

One to make him magic, one to make him fly.

But he might just find where real magic lies instead,

With a box of pixie dust, beneath his Mummy’s bed.

Review

Olly is making ‘Magic Pie‘ in the kitchen using a concoction of household ingredients, all the while making a plan to blame his little Sister if his Mum catches him making a mess! But, instead of getting told off Olly’s Mum explains to make Magic Pie he will need some Pixie dust which luckily for him she keeps under her bed.

Transported to Magic Land, Olly meets some new friends all of which are searching for something. Deciding to help Olly leads his friends to meet a Genie who can grant them the wishes they need, that is if he can remember his magic words. With a little help from Olly’s new magic song the Genie is soon able to grant Olly his wish to go home to see his Mummy ( and even his little sister!) and help his new friends too.

This is a wonderfully written story that encapsulates childhood imagination perfectly. I’m sure parents everywhere will appreciate the concept of magic potions, I know my kids have all loved mixing and creating some wacky ones in their time! Written in rhyme the story has a great flow making it an absolute pleasure to read. Although quite long, the words used are pretty simple and the font is large, both of which make this book ideal for early readers.

We enjoyed reading and sharing this magical tale and Author Robyn kindly sent some colouring sheets and our very own bottle of Pixie dust to accompany the book which went down a storm with my little man – although I did have to micro manage a little when it came to wanting to tip the Pixie dust out onto the carpet! This would make a great story to share in nurseries and school’s too, with plenty of additional sensory and imaginative learning that could be incorporated.

About The Author

My children live in a world only confined to the limits of their imaginations. With so much inspiration around me in day to day life, I started to write down their adventures. With the support of my long-suffering husband, my faithful friends and a little creativity, Magic Pie and other stories started to keep me awake at night. The only way to get some sleep was to write them down, so I did.
