Having taken part in previous promotional Blog Tour’s for three of Sue Wickstead’s children’s books I was thrilled to be invited to share another one with my little man and offer our thoughts. This time we are reviewing Daisy Daydream The Nursery Rhyme Bus, another in Sue’s fabulous series featuring re purposed buses. Plus be sure to check out the giveaway linked below for your chance to WIN a book from Sue’s collection.
About The Book
Daisy was a happy red bus who loved travelling the busy streets of London.
When newer and shinier buses came along, the older buses like Daisy began to disappear.
Would Daisy become one of the forgotten buses, or was something else planned for her?
Review
Daisy is a red double-decker London bus who spends her time happily navigating her Oxford Street route, that is until the arrival of a shiny, modern bus. Sitting by and watching the other older buses be sold or broken apart for spares poor Daisy is worried what her fate will be now she is no longer needed.
Luckily for her though her driver spots an article about Jay Jay The Supersonic Bus who was given a second chance when he was re purposed to become a play bus. Keen to breathe new life into Daisy, her driver makes plans to give her a make over of her very own to make her useful again.
Once again Sue has written a beautiful, easy to understand, engaging book pitched perfectly at her target audience. Not only are her stories sweet and a joy to read, but they also help educate along the way and this offering is no different. I love the idea of recycling, re purposing and giving new life to something old that is no longer needed and it’s a great message to convey to the next generation in order to help save our planet in the future.
Like her other books the illustrations are bright, colourful and detailed and really add something extra to the story, offering a perfect opportunity for further discussion. The nursery rhyme illustrations in this book in particular were really well received by my little man who enjoyed singing each rhyme as we read.
It’s clear whilst reading Sue’s bus books how passionate she is about the play bus and I really enjoyed the section at the back of this book which gives a glimpse into the real life Bewbush Play bus with some fabulous photos included.
Sue’s books never fail to deliver an enjoyable, entertaining read that can be enjoyed time and time again without becoming boring. We absolutely adore this new addition to our book shelf and would highly recommend Daisy Daydream to parents looking for a new story to share with their primary age children.
About The Author
I am a teacher and an author and have currently written six children’s picture books with a bus theme.
For over 20 years, alongside my teaching career, I worked with a Children’s Charity, The Bewbush Playbus Association, which led me to write a photographic history book about it.I soon found that many children had never been on a bus before, let alone a ‘Playbus’ and they wanted to know more. I decided to write a fictional tale about the bus, his number plate JJK261 gave him his name.
‘Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus,’ came out in print in 2014. It is the story behind the original bus and is his journey from a scrap-yard to being changed into a playbus for children to play in. From Fact to fiction the bus journey continued. This story has now been followed by five more picture books.
Sue also undertake events and author bookings and loves to share the story. There are also a few more stories in the writing process, with links to real events and buses. The story has been read in many schools in the south-East of England, where I teach as a cover teacher, it is always well received and certainly different
