Reading has always been such a big part of my life and if you regularly read Fraser’s Fun House you will know it’s a passion I share with my children who I’ve reading to since they were babies. Being such avid readers I’m always looking for new, undiscovered titles to keep our bookshelves continually refreshed and like many parents I often find it difficult to find books that aren’t the usual hyped titles or are written by popular well-known authors. Now I’m in no way saying that those well-known books aren’t worthy, it’s more the fact that we either own or have read most of them!
It’s clear I am not alone in this struggle to find interesting and different books for my kids as couple Daphne & Alex have not only experienced this issue, but have found a solution. Music to your ears I hear you cry! Like myself the pair found it difficult to find representative interesting books for their daughter that veered away from the popular books that are prominent in bookshops. Instead they found recommendation’s from their friends in the publishing sector helped them uncover some real gems. Recognising this as a common problem and realising they had the tools and knowledge to help other parents Cureadosity was born.
Launched in December 2020 this brand new book subscription service offers a specially curated book box delivered direct to your door on either a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis. Each box contains three titles that have been personally chosen by Daphne & Alex from a pool of books released within the last 3 months making the chances of subscribers already owning the months books fairly slim. With a mixture of paper and hard back picture books the subscription is aimed at the target age of 2-6 years however our little man is currently 7 and like to read independently which these style of books are perfect for.
Cureadosity kindly sent me their first ever box to share with my little man and it arrived not only well packaged to ensure the books weren’t damaged, but also beautifully presented with a welcome letter from the founders. We received two hardback books; The Couch Potato by Jory John & Pete Oswald and Afraid of the Dark by Sarah Shaffi, Isabel Otter & Lucy Farfort plus a paperback copy of I Really Really Need A Wee by Karl Newson & Duncan Beedie, all books which we hadn’t heard of before which was fabulous.
We also received a stunning ‘Day of the Dead’ style print which is wonderful quality and currently has pride of place above our bookshelves, plus some activity sheets related to I Really Really Need A Wee.
The books we received were all of great quality and included two books from the publisher Little Tiger who we have worked with before. The stories were perfectly pitched for the age group and we enjoyed sharing them all with our little man who particularly enjoyed I Really Really Need A Wee – surely there’s nothing as entertaining as bodily functions is there?
This is a fabulous service, perfect for parents looking to expand their children’s reading beyond the run of the mill titles we are all familiar with. There’s no thought or effort needed, simply subscribe and sit back while Daphne & Alex use their wealth of knowledge as parents to select the perfect books for your little one. This service is especially helpful during the current pandemic when we are unable to browse in store and select our own books. Plus what could be better than a monthly surprise package of books? It’s a dream scenario for our family!
Subscriptions cost £20 plus shipping a month with the option to have bi-monthly or quarterly deliveries or even skip a month if needed. Currently this service is exclusive to the UK with boxes shipping 15th-20th of each month.
Cureadosity have kindly offered my readers a 10% discount on their first box using code UNBOX10 at the checkout.
